CUSTOMER DATA PRIVACY POLICY

INTRODUCTION

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (the Commission) Customer Data Privacy Policy (also referred to as the ‘Privacy Policy’) provides information on the collection, use, and sharing (collectively referred to ‘processing’ or ‘process’) of personal information by the Commission, in connection with your use of its Customer Web Portal and/or Native Mobile Application (hereinafter referred to as “the T&TEC App”). This Privacy Policy also explains the privacy rights you have in relation to these processing activities.  By using any of the Commission’s services (online or otherwise) you agree to the use of the data collected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy can change over time, to comply with legal requirements or to meet changing business needs. The most recent version of this policy can be found at www.ttec.co.tt. In case there is an important change that the Commission wants to highlight to you, it will inform you by another appropriate manner (including but not limited to a pop-up notice or statement of changes on the Commission’s website).

As used in this Privacy Policy, ‘personal information’ or ‘personal data’ means information that relates to an identified individual or to an identifiable individual. This can include your name, address, email address, business contact details, or information gathered through your interactions with the Commission via our website or at events. Personal information is also referred to as ‘information about you.’.

INFORMATION COLLECTED

The Commission collects data, including personal data from you through the use of physical and digital registration/application forms as well as direct personal contact (including but not limited to, in person, over the telephone and via email). Personal data is defined as any information that allows you to be identified as set out below.

The Commission may collect any or all of the information that you provide depending on the type of transaction you enter into, including but not limited to the following:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Telephone number
  • Fax number
  • Email address
  • Banking information
  • Service account information (such as electricity usage, account balances, transaction history, credit information and billings)
  • Information/documents required for our services.
  • Location
  • Photographs
  • Unique Identification Information (e.g DP, National ID etc.)
  • Usernames

Furthermore, when using the Commission’s website and online applications, the Commission may collect log data that could include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type and version, the pages of the Commission’s online applications that you visit, the time and date of your visit and the time spent on those pages. The Commission may also collect information about your device such as name of the device, operating system and device identifiers. Information collected may depend on the type of device you use and its settings.

It should be noted that data in relation to credit card information/payments made through the Commission’s online payment facilities is processed through an international technologically secure electronic gateway linked to its applications. The Commission does not store any credit card information.

Other information that may be required from time to time to process a request may also be collected.

INFORMATION USE

The Commission will only use your data where it is necessary to do so in its dealings with you, for example, the provision of services, providing customer support, or where it has your consent.

In addition to the aforementioned, the Commission may use the data collected for the following:

  • To administer our website and business;
  • To send statements, invoices, and payment reminders to you, and collect payments from you;
  • To contact you regarding issues/updates related to your account(s) (electricity and/or online) and transactions;
  • To quickly process your transactions;
  • To personalize your experience;
  • To improve our website in order to better serve you;
  • To follow up with you after correspondence (email or phone inquiries);
  • To provide you with information regarding the Commission’s services or any related services that may be of benefit to you. This may also include information to ensure your safety; and/or
  • To administer a contest, promotion or survey

RETENTION OF DATA

The Commission will keep your data for as long as it is required by law, or for the purposes in which it was collected.

If, during this period, you would like to see details of your data that is being stored/used, see details of the parties with whom the Commission may share your data, or ask to correct, update, supplement or delete this personal data, kindly contact  comments@ttec.co.tt.

DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION TO OUTSIDE PARTIES

The Commission does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable data. These outside parties do not include trusted third parties who assist the Commission in operating its website and online applications, conducting its business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. The Commission may also release your information to comply with the law, enforce site policies, or protect its or others’ rights, property, or safety.

COOKIES

The Commission’s website and online applications uses “cookies” which are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer’s hard drive. Cookies hold information which allows a website and online applications to recognize your account. The Commission’s cookies do not contain any personal identifiable information. This facility is used by the Commission’s website and online applications to enhance your experience. You have the ability to prevent your computer from accepting cookies but, if you do, certain functionality on the website and online applications may be impaired. As such, kindly enable cookies when using the Commission’s website and online applications.

PROTECTION OF CUSTOMER’S PERSONAL INFORMATION

The Commission recognizes the value of the customers’ data with which it has been entrusted. As such, it has taken a number of steps to ensure both the privacy and security of this data and to ensure that data collected and stored by the Commission shall be in accordance with the Data Protection Act Chapter 22:04 and all applicable laws of Trinidad and Tobago. Additionally, the Commission’s employees are granted access to customers’ data only if their job function/position requires them to have the access. Furthermore, the Commission’s employees are mandated to treat customers’ data with the strictest of confidence and general best practices for data security are promulgated within the Commission including proper management of passwords. In addition, customers’ sensitive data is encrypted before being stored, thus rendering it unreadable should it be accessed.

These are just some of the initiatives employed by the Commission to prevent unauthorised access to your data.

REVISIONS TO THE PRIVACY POLICY

The Commission reserves the right to amend or modify this Privacy Policy at any time, and any such changes will be indicated on this page with an effective revision date.
