CUSTOMER DATA PRIVACY POLICY
INTRODUCTION
The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (the Commission) is committed to protecting any data that we collect concerning you, our valued customer and takes seriously its responsibilities to safeguard the privacy and security of your data.
The Commission collects the minimum amount of information about you that is required to provide a satisfactory service. By using any of our services (online or otherwise) it will be an indication that you agree to the use of the data that we collect in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

INFORMATION COLLECTED
The Commission collects data, including personal data from you through the use of physical and digital registration/application forms as well as direct personal contact (for example, in person, over the telephone and via email). Personal data is defined as any information that allows you to be identified as set our below.
We may collect any or all of the information that you provide to us depending on the type of transaction you enter into, including but not limited to the following:
· Name
· Address
· Date of birth
· Telephone number
· Fax number
· Email address
· Banking information
· Service account information (such as electricity usage, account balances, transaction history, credit information and billings)
· Information/documents required for our services.
Furthermore, when using our website, the Commission may collect log data that could include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type and version, the pages of our website that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics may also be collected via your browser when using our website.
It should be noted that data in relation to credit card information/payments made through our online tendering service is processed by First Atlantic Commerce through a technologically secure electronic gateway linked to our website. First Atlantic Commerce has their own privacy policy, please click here to view. The Commission does not store any credit card information on our servers related to online tendering payments. Credit card data related to the provision of the Commission’s other services are however stored securely in accordance with this policy.
Other information that may be required from time to time to process a request may also be collected.
INFORMATION USE
The Commission will only use your data where it is necessary to do so in its dealings with you, for example, the provision of services, providing customer support, or where it has your consent.
In addition to the aforementioned, the Commission may use the data collected for the following:
· To administer our website and business;
· To send statements, invoices, and payment reminders to you, and collect payments from you;
· To contact you regarding issues/updates related to your account(s) (electricity and/or online) and transactions;
· To quickly process your transactions;
· To personalize your experience;
· To improve our website in order to better serve you;
· To follow up with you after correspondence (email or phone inquiries);
· To provide you with information regarding the Commission’s services or any related services that may be of benefit to you. This may also include information to ensure your safety; and/or
· To administer a contest, promotion or survey
RETENTION OF DATA
The Commission will keep your data for as long as it is required by law, or for the purposes in which it was collected.

DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION TO OUTSIDE PARTIES
The Commission does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable data. These outside parties do not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property, or safety.
COOKIES
The Commission’s website uses “cookies” which are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Cookies hold information which allows a website to recognize your account. Our cookies do not contain any personally identifying information. This facility is used by our website to enhance your experience. You have the ability to prevent your computer from accepting cookies but, if you do, certain functionality on the website may be impaired. As such, we advise that you enable cookies when using the Commission’s website.
PROTECTION OF CUSTOMER’S PERSONAL INFORMATION
The Commission recognizes the value of the customers’ data with which it has been entrusted. As such, we have taken a number of steps to ensure both the privacy and security of this data and to ensure that data collected by the Commission shall be held in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 2011. Firstly, employees are granted access to customers’ data only if their job function/position requires them to have the access. Furthermore, employees are mandated to treat customers’ data with the strictest of confidence and general best practices for data security are promulgated within the Commission including proper management of passwords. In addition, customers’ sensitive data is encrypted before being stored, thus rendering it unreadable should it be accessed. A robust firewall facility has been implemented to prevent unauthorised access to the Commission’s network and systems. Also, for our online services, a secure server is used and any data that is transmitted is encrypted by the secure server software (SSL).
These are just some of the initiatives employed by the Commission to prevent unauthorised access to your data.
REVISIONS TO THE PRIVACY POLICY
We reserve the right to amend or modify our Privacy Policy at any time, and any such changes will be indicated on this page with an effective revision date.
This Policy takes effect from August 1st, 2018.
